The Line: SRP's Telecommunications System

I handled location audio for SRP’s The Line, a corporate production documenting the telecommunications infrastructure that supports Salt River Project’s electrical grid across Arizona. Infrastructure documentaries combine engineer interviews, facility tours, and field coverage of systems in operation.

SRP has extensive infrastructure across a large geographic area, which means field shooting in varied locations: substations, control rooms, rural right-of-way corridors, and urban utility facilities. Each environment has its own ambient sound signature, from the hum of a substation to the quiet of an open desert right-of-way. Capturing clean dialogue in all of those conditions while also getting the ambient track that communicates what these facilities sound like is the audio dimension of telling an infrastructure story.
