SRP – Light Up Navajo 2022

I handled location audio for Salt River Project’s Light Up Navajo 2022 initiative — a continuation of SRP’s ongoing effort to bring electrical service to homes in the Navajo Nation that have never had it. This is meaningful, community-scale work, and I’ve been involved in multiple SRP Navajo productions over the years.

The shooting conditions are as remote as it sounds — we’re working on land far from infrastructure, in homes that will be wired for electricity for the first time. The emotional content of these moments, a family seeing their home lit up for the first time, requires the sound recordist to be invisible while still being close enough to capture dialogue cleanly. The ambient sound of the Navajo landscape is part of the story.
