Scorned: Love Kills

Sound recordist on Scorned: Love Kills (2012), an Investigation Discovery true crime series.

I worked as sound recordist on Scorned: Love Kills, Investigation Discovery’s true crime series dramatizing real cases of love gone violently wrong.

The show uses a hybrid format: dramatic re-enactments of the crime intercut with present-day interviews from investigators, family members, and sometimes survivors. My role covered the interview side of the production — the documentary component where real people describe what actually happened.

True crime interview audio requires the same care as any documentary sit-down: a controlled acoustic environment carved out of whatever space is available, clean lav placement that disappears under clothing, and boom positioning that supports but doesn’t crowd the frame. Investigation Discovery was running a high episode count on this format, so production days moved quickly. The key is having a system that you can deploy fast without compromising the track.

The series ran for seven seasons, which is a strong run for cable true crime. Two episodes for me on this one.
