I handled production audio for NFL Films’ Game Day All Access Week 10 Mic’d Up segment. The Mic’d Up format is one of the more technically demanding NFL sound jobs — you’re placing wireless transmitters on active NFL players and coaches, and the transmitters need to survive full-contact football while delivering clean audio throughout the game.

Player mic placement has to account for pads, jersey material, and the fact that the talent will be hit hard. Coach mics on the sideline have their own challenges: crowd noise, communication headsets, and a lot of movement across a noisy environment. The result, when it works, is some of the most intimate game audio broadcast produces.
