Desert Car Kings

I worked as sound mixer on two episodes of Desert Car Kings, the Discovery Channel series that ran January through March 2011. The show followed Jason and Ron McClure and their operation at Desert Valley Auto Parts — a 100-plus-acre facility in the Phoenix area with more than 10,000 vehicles, built around the rust-free cars Arizona’s dry climate produces in abundance.

J.K. Simmons narrated. The format was classic unscripted sports doc: ambitious builds, tight deadlines, and a father-son dynamic at the center of every episode. It was a local production for me — Desert Valley is less than an hour from where I’m based — and that familiarity with outdoor shooting in desert heat was an asset on set.
